A.6X.29

Massey Ferguson A.6X.29 – Tractor Control Unit (TCU): External Hydraulic Valve 6 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction associated with the 6th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem (such as a voltage issue or open/short circuit to the valve's solenoid) or a mechanical fault within the valve spool itself preventing proper operation.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the hydraulic fluid level and condition. Ensure you are using the correct UTTO (Universal Tractor Transmission Oil) fluid and that the filter is not heavily contaminated.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector leading to External Hydraulic Valve 6 for frayed wires, corrosion, or loose pins.

  3. Check the voltage reaching the valve solenoid. Temporarily swap the electrical connection with an adjacent working valve (e.g., Valve 5) to determine if the fault code follows the wiring or stays with the valve block.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve all residual pressure in the hydraulic system before beginning work.

  2. Disconnect Electricals

Unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from External Hydraulic Valve 6.

  3. Remove the Valve/Solenoid

Unbolt the retaining screws holding the faulty solenoid or the specific valve spool section to the main hydraulic block.

  4. Clean and Inspect

Clean the mating surfaces. Inspect the valve chamber for metal shavings or debris, which could indicate a failing hydraulic pump.

  5. Install New Parts

Install the replacement solenoid or valve section. Always replace the O-rings/seals between the valve sections to prevent internal or external leaks.

  6. Reassembly

Torque the retaining bolts to the manufacturer's specifications and reconnect the electrical harness.

  7. Fluid and Testing

Top up the hydraulic fluid if any was lost during the repair. Start the tractor, allow the system to warm up, and test the remote valve for proper operation.

  8. Clear Codes

Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.6X.29 DTC from the system memory.
