A.70.12

Massey Ferguson A.70.12 – Dash control unit: External Hydraulic Valve 7 Issue

Issue description

Indicates a connection problem or malfunction on the 7th external hydraulic valve (spool valve). This can cause the remote hydraulics to become slow, weak, or completely dead. The underlying condition is typically an electrical fault, a physically stuck/jammed valve due to debris, or a pressure issue caused by contaminated fluid.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the hydraulic oil filter and transmission filter for blockages or dirty oil, which can restrict flow

  2. Check the wiring harness and electrical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 7 for corrosion, loose pins, or broken wires

  3. Look for visible hydraulic fluid leaks around the valve, which can reduce system efficiency and cause fluid loss

  4. Determine if the valve is physically stuck due to internal wear or debris, causing slow response times or complete system failure

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Ensure the tractor is off and relieve all hydraulic system pressure before servicing the valve stack.

  2. Electrical Repair

Disconnect the electrical harness from External Hydraulic Valve 7. Clean the contacts. If the wiring is damaged, repair or replace the connector/harness.

  3. Valve Removal

If the electrical circuit is sound but the valve is sticking or leaking, remove the valve assembly from the remote stack.

  4. Clean and Inspect

Inspect the valve for internal debris, worn seals, or jamming.

  5. Replace Components

If the valve is internally damaged or leaking excessively, replace the solenoid or the entire spool valve assembly.

  6. Reassembly

Reinstall the valve, reconnect the electrical harness, and top off the hydraulic fluid.

  7. Clear Codes

Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool or interface device to clear the 0A.70.12 DTC from the onboard system.

  8. Test

Test the remote hydraulic function with an implement to ensure proper pressure and flow.
