Massey Ferguson A.70.13 – Tractor Control Unit or Hydraulic/Transmission ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 7 Issue

Malfunction associated with the 7th external hydraulic remote valve. This is typically triggered by an electrical connection problem on the hydraulic valve, such as an open circuit, a short to ground, a short to power, or a sensor signal that is out of range. It can also point to a mechanical issue where the valve is stuck or experiencing pressure loss.

   Verify the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition, and ensure the hydraulic filters are not clogged.

   Inspect External Valve 7 at the rear remote stack for visible leaks, damaged O-rings, or physical damage.

   Check the wiring harness and connector going to the Valve 7 solenoid for rub points, corrosion, or loose connections.

   Measure the solenoid coil resistance with a multimeter to check for an open circuit or short to ground, and verify ground integrity.

   Perform a swap test by exchanging the solenoid coil from Valve 7 with a known good valve (e.g., Valve 6). If the fault code changes to the new valve's circuit, the solenoid is the culprit.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and engage the parking brake.

   Relieve Pressure

   Cycle the hydraulic remote levers/controls to relieve any residual pressure in the system.

   Access the Valve

   Locate the external hydraulic valve block at the rear of the tractor and identify Valve 7. Clean the surrounding area thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

   Disconnect Electricals

   Unplug the electrical harness connector from the Valve 7 solenoid.

   Replace Solenoid (If electrical fault)

   Remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve spool, slide the old solenoid coil off, and install the new coil.

   Replace Valve Cartridge (If mechanical/leak fault)

   Unbolt the valve section from the manifold block. Be prepared to catch escaping hydraulic fluid. Install the new valve section, ensuring all O-rings and seals are properly seated (do not use teflon tape on O-ring threads).

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Testing

   Top up the hydraulic fluid (e.g., 10W40 UTTO). Start the tractor, operate the remote valve to bleed the system, and check for leaks.

   Clear Codes

   Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.70.13 DTC from the system.
