Massey Ferguson A.72.18 – Hydraulic/Transmission ECU or Main Vehicle ECU: External Hydraulic Valve 7 Issue
Issue description
Malfunction within the 7th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve) circuit, typically indicating an electrical connection problem (open circuit, short, or poor connection on the valve's solenoid) or a mechanical failure/sticking of the spool valve.

Check the cause
Use a compatible diagnostic tool or interface device to retrieve and confirm the active DTCs
Inspect the wiring harness leading to External Hydraulic Valve 7 for frayed wires, corroded pins, or a loose connector at the valve solenoid
Inspect the external hydraulic valve block at the rear of the tractor for physical damage or hydraulic fluid leaks
Check if the valve is physically sticking in one direction, which can trigger performance-related fault codes
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Lower all attached implements to the ground and turn off the tractor to relieve hydraulic system pressure.
Prepare for Fluid Loss
Place a large catch bucket underneath the rear remote valve block, as removing the valve will result in hydraulic fluid loss.
Disconnect Electricals
Unplug the electrical harness connector from the solenoid on External Hydraulic Valve 7.
Remove Hoses
Disconnect the hydraulic hoses and lines attached to the specific valve.
Unbolt the Valve
Remove the mounting bolts securing the spool valve to the main hydraulic manifold/stack.
Replace Seals/Valve
If rebuilding, replace the internal spool seals using an OEM repair kit. If replacing the entire unit, ensure the mounting surface on the manifold is clean and install new mounting O-rings.
Reinstallation
Bolt the new or repaired valve back into the stack. Reconnect the hydraulic lines and the electrical connector.
Refill and Test
Top off the tractor's hydraulic/transmission fluid reservoir. Start the tractor, use a diagnostic tool to clear the DTC, and test the remote valve for proper operation and leak-free performance.
