Massey Ferguson A.72.22 – Tractor Control Unit (TCU) or Hydraulic/Implement Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 7 Issue

Malfunction in the circuit or mechanical operation of the 7th rear remote hydraulic spool valve. The underlying condition is typically an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power at the valve's solenoid), a sensor signal issue (implausible position reading), or a mechanical restriction preventing the spool valve from moving properly.

   Check hydraulic and transmission oil level to ensure it is correct and verify the hydraulic oil filter is not blocked or contaminated

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the External Valve 7 solenoid for rub points, broken wires, or poor ground integrity

   Disconnect the solenoid connector and test the coil resistance with a multimeter to check for an open circuit or a short to ground

   Perform a swap test by exchanging electrical connections or solenoids with another identical remote valve to isolate whether the fault follows the solenoid or stays with the harness/valve body

   Check for mechanical binding to ensure the spool valve is not physically stuck due to debris or failed internal O-rings

   Depressurize the System

   Turn off the tractor, lower all implements to the ground, and cycle the hydraulic levers/buttons to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure. Disconnect the battery.

   Access the Valve Stack

   Locate the rear remote valve block and identify Valve 7 (usually the outermost or top/bottom valve depending on the stack orientation).

   Remove the Solenoid/Actuator

   Disconnect the electrical harness. Remove the retaining screws holding the electronic actuator/solenoid to the spool valve body.

   Rebuild or Replace

   If electrical: Replace the faulty solenoid actuator. If mechanical/leaking: Remove the spool valve section. Disassemble the valve on a clean workbench, remove the old O-rings and seals, clean the spool, and install a new spool valve repair kit.

   Reassemble

   Reattach the valve section to the stack (torquing bolts to OEM spec), install the solenoid, and reconnect the wiring harness.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, top up the hydraulic fluid, start the tractor, and clear the DTCs using the diagnostic interface. Test the remote valve with an implement to ensure smooth operation and no leaks.
