Massey Ferguson A.72.24: External Hydraulic Valve 7 Issue

Malfunction in the circuit, solenoid, or mechanical operation of the 7th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve) on the tractor's rear hydraulic stack. The system has detected that the valve is not responding correctly to commands, which is typically caused by an electrical short, an open circuit, a failed solenoid coil, or a mechanically stuck spool.

   Verify that the hydraulic fluid is at the correct level and free of contamination.

   Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector leading to the solenoid of External Hydraulic Valve 7. Look for frayed wires, corrosion, or bent pins.

   Swap the solenoid coil from Valve 7 with a known good coil from another valve (e.g., Valve 6) to isolate the issue. If the fault code changes to Valve 6, the solenoid is faulty. If it remains on Valve 7, the issue is in the wiring or the mechanical valve slice.

   Check if the manual override (if equipped) on the valve slice moves freely to rule out a physically stuck spool causing incorrect amperage draw.

   Safety First

   Park the tractor on level ground, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic pressure by cycling the remote levers/buttons multiple times.

   Locate the Valve

   Identify the 7th external hydraulic remote valve on the rear hydraulic valve stack.

   Disconnect Electricals

   Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the valve's solenoid.

   Remove the Component

   If replacing the solenoid: Remove the retaining nut/bolts at the end of the solenoid coil and slide it off the valve stem. If replacing the entire valve slice: Unbolt the tie-rods holding the hydraulic valve stack together. Have a catch pan ready, as hydraulic fluid will leak. Carefully slide the faulty valve slice out.

   Clean and Prep

   Clean the mating surfaces thoroughly. Ensure no dirt or debris enters the open hydraulic system. Replace any O-rings between the valve slices.

   Install New Part

   Slide the new valve slice or solenoid into place. If reassembling the valve stack, torque the tie-rod nuts evenly to the manufacturer's specifications to prevent warping the spools.

   Test

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Start the tractor, top off the hydraulic fluid if necessary, and operate the 7th remote to ensure proper function. Clear the DTC using a compatible diagnostic tool.
