A.73.13

Massey Ferguson A.73.13 – onboard diagnostic system / hydraulic control module: External Hydraulic Valve 7 Issue

Issue description

The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected a malfunction, electrical fault, or connection problem on the 7th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). This is typically an electrical communication error, an out-of-range signal from the valve's position sensor, or a solenoid failure.

Check the cause

  1. Verify the code using a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool or interface device.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the #7 rear remote valve stack. Look for pinched wires, corrosion, or loose pins in the connector.

  3. Test the spool valve solenoid for proper electrical resistance using a multimeter.

  4. Verify hydraulic fluid levels and ensure there are no physical blockages, leaks, or mechanical binding at the valve block.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a flat surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic pressure by cycling the remote levers/buttons. Disconnect the battery.

  2. Locate the Valve

Identify External Hydraulic Valve 7 in the rear remote valve stack.

  3. Harness Repair

Disconnect the electrical harness from the valve. Clean the connector pins with contact cleaner. If the wiring is damaged, splice or replace the affected section of the harness.

  4. Valve Replacement/Rebuild

If the electrical connection is sound but the valve fails testing, unbolt the affected electric spool slice from the hydraulic valve stack.

  5. Installation

Install the replacement electric spool slice (or rebuild the existing one using an OEM repair kit). Torque the stack bolts to OEM specifications.

  6. Reassembly

Reconnect the electrical harness and restore any hydraulic fluid that was lost during the swap.

  7. Calibration/Clearing

Reconnect the battery, use a diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.73.13 DTC, and test the remote valve operation to ensure the fault does not return.
