Massey Ferguson A.73.18 – Tractor Control Unit (TCU) or Electro-Hydraulic Remote (EHR) control module: External Hydraulic Valve 7 Issue

The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected a malfunction, connection problem, or out-of-range electrical signal on the 7th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve).

   Check the electrical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 7 at the rear valve stack. Look for corrosion, bent pins, moisture ingress, or loose connections.

   Trace the wiring from the valve back to the EHR/TCU module. Look for chafing, breaks, or shorts to ground, which are common causes of connection-related hydraulic DTCs.

   Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the valve's solenoid coil. Ensure it is not reading as an open circuit or a dead short.

   Inspect the valve block for external leaks. Verify that the tractor's hydraulic fluid is at the correct level and free of contamination, as debris can cause the spool valve to stick mechanically, triggering an electrical fault when the valve fails to actuate.

   Depressurize the System

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, and turn off the engine. Actuate the hydraulic remote levers/buttons to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure in the system.

   Access the Valve

   Locate the external hydraulic valve stack at the rear of the tractor and identify the specific section for Valve 7.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from the faulty valve solenoid.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the exterior of the valve block with brake cleaner or a degreaser to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

   Remove the Component

   Depending on the diagnosis, unbolt either the faulty solenoid coil or the entire spool valve section from the valve block. Have a catch pan ready to collect residual hydraulic fluid.

   Replace and Reseal

   Install the new solenoid or spool valve assembly. Ensure all new O-rings and seals are properly seated and lubricated with clean hydraulic fluid prior to installation.

   Reassemble

   Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications to prevent warping the valve body, and securely reconnect the electrical harness.

   Test and Clear Codes

   Top up the hydraulic fluid if necessary. Start the tractor, check for leaks, and operate the hydraulic remote to ensure proper function. Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the A.73.18 fault code from the system.
