A.80.1E

Massey Ferguson A.80.1E – Tractor Control Unit (TCU) or Hydraulic Control Unit: External Hydraulic Valve 8 Issue

Issue description

This fault code indicates an electrical or functional malfunction with the #8 External Hydraulic Valve (also known as a spool valve or remote valve). The system has detected an anomaly in the circuit controlling this specific electro-hydraulic remote (EHR), which typically points to an open circuit, a short to ground, a short to battery power, or a solenoid that is failing to actuate properly.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and the connector leading to the #8 external hydraulic valve on the rear valve stack for rubbed wires, broken pins, or heavy corrosion.

  2. Use a multimeter to test the solenoid coil's resistance and check the harness for an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to power.

  3. Perform a swap test by moving the electrical connector or solenoid coil from Valve 8 to a known good valve (e.g., Valve 7). If the fault follows the solenoid, the solenoid is bad. If it stays on Valve 8, the issue is in the wiring or control module.

  4. Verify that the system has adequate overall hydraulic pressure, as low pressure can sometimes cause valve actuation faults.

Repair steps

  1. Safety Prep

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery. Relieve all hydraulic pressure by cycling the hydraulic control levers.

  2. Locate the Valve

Identify the #8 external hydraulic remote valve slice on the rear hydraulic valve stack.

  3. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the area around the valve to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

Disconnect the electrical harness. Remove the retaining nut or screws holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem and slide the faulty solenoid off.

  5. Replace the Valve Slice (If necessary)

If the mechanical spool valve itself is internally damaged (not just the electrical solenoid), you will need to unbolt the tie rods holding the valve stack together. Have a catch pan ready for hydraulic fluid. Remove the faulty slice, install the new slice with fresh O-rings, and torque the tie rods to OEM specifications.

  6. Install New Solenoid

Slide the new solenoid onto the stem and secure it.

  7. Reassembly and Testing

Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery. Start the tractor, clear the fault codes using a compatible diagnostic tool, and test the #8 remote valve for proper operation and leaks.
