Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connector going to External Hydraulic Valve 8 for corrosion, bent pins, or frayed wires

  2. Ensure the hydraulic fluid is at the correct level and free of contamination (water or debris) which can cause the spool valve to stick

  3. Verify that the hydraulic pump is delivering adequate pressure to the valve block

  4. Swap the electrical solenoid connection with a known working valve (e.g., Valve 7) to see if the fault code follows the solenoid or stays with the wiring harness

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Lower all implements to the ground, turn off the tractor, and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve all residual pressure in the system.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the area around the external hydraulic valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.

  3. Disconnect Electricals

Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty spool valve (Valve 8).

  4. Remove Hydraulic Lines

Disconnect the hydraulic hoses attached to the valve. Cap the lines immediately to prevent fluid loss and contamination.

  5. Remove the Valve

Unbolt the faulty electric spool slice/valve from the main hydraulic valve stack.

  6. Install New Valve

Mount the replacement spool valve, ensuring all O-rings and seals are properly seated. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

  7. Reconnect

Reattach the hydraulic lines and plug in the electrical connector.

  8. Refill and Bleed

Top off the hydraulic fluid if any was lost. Start the tractor and cycle the valve several times to bleed air from the system.

  9. Clear Codes

Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.80.23 DTC from the system. Note: Some electric spool slices require programming/calibration to the tractor upon installation.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Electric Spool Slice (Valve)
