A.80.25

Massey Ferguson A.80.25 – Tractor Control Unit (TCU) or Hydraulic/Implement Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 8 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the circuit or operation of the 8th external hydraulic remote valve (auxiliary spool valve), typically caused by an electrical failure (short circuit, open circuit, or failed solenoid coil) or a mechanical/hydraulic restriction (stuck spool valve, blocked filter, or contaminated hydraulic fluid).

Check the cause

  1. Check the hydraulic oil level and condition. Contaminated oil or a blocked hydraulic/transmission filter can restrict flow and cause spool valve faults.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 8. Look for corrosion, broken wires, or loose pins.

  3. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the Valve 8 solenoid coil. Compare it to OEM specs to check for an open or shorted coil.

  4. Perform a swap test by exchanging the solenoid coil (or the entire valve section) with an adjacent, known-good valve (e.g., Valve 7). If the fault code changes to the new location, the solenoid/valve is faulty. If the code remains A.80.25, the issue is in the tractor's wiring harness or the ECU.

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements to the ground, turn off the engine, and actuate the hydraulic controls to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure in the system.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the exterior of the rear hydraulic valve block. It is critical to prevent dirt or debris from contaminating the hydraulic system during disassembly.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

Unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from External Hydraulic Valve 8.

  4. Remove the Valve

Remove the mounting bolts securing the faulty valve section to the hydraulic manifold block. Carefully separate the valve, ensuring no old O-rings drop into the housing.

  5. Prep the New Part

If replacing only the solenoid, unbolt the old solenoid from the valve body and install the new one. If replacing the entire spool valve, prepare the new valve assembly.

  6. Install New Seals

Always install new O-rings/seals on the mating surfaces between the valve and the manifold.

  7. Mount and Torque

Mount the new valve assembly and torque the retaining bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque settings.

  8. Reassemble and Test

Reconnect the electrical connector. Check the hydraulic fluid level and top up if necessary. Start the tractor, operate the remote valve several times to bleed any trapped air, and inspect the mating surfaces for leaks.

  9. Clear Codes

Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic scan tool to clear the A.80.25 fault code from the system.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • External Hydraulic Spool Valve Assembly

    Bosch Rexroth SB23

Generic part name: Auxiliary Spool Valve / Remote Valve

  • Valve Solenoid Coil

Generic part name: Hydraulic Valve Solenoid

  • Hydraulic / Transmission Filter

Should be replaced if fluid contamination is suspected.

  • O-Ring / Seal Kit

Required when mating the new valve to the block to prevent internal/external pressure loss.
