Check the cause

  1. Visual & Harness Inspection: Check the electrical connections at the rear external hydraulic valve block. Look for corroded pins, loose connectors, or damaged wiring leading to the spool slice.

  2. Solenoid Testing: Test the resistance of the solenoid coil on Valve 8 to ensure it hasn't shorted or opened. Verify that the valve is receiving the correct voltage when actuated via the cab joystick or fender controls.

  3. Hydraulic Leak Check: Inspect the valve slice and couplings for physical damage or hydraulic fluid leaks that could cause a loss of pilot pressure.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Safely park the tractor on level ground, lower all implements, shut off the engine, and actuate the hydraulic levers/joystick to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure in the system.

  2. Access the Valve Block

Locate the rear external hydraulic valve block and identify the specific slice corresponding to Valve 8.

  3. Disconnect Electricals

Carefully unplug the wiring harness connector from the electric spool slice/solenoid. Clean the connector with electrical contact cleaner. If the connector is damaged, splice in a new pigtail.

  4. Remove the Faulty Valve

If the wiring is sound but the valve has failed, unbolt the faulty electric spool slice from the valve stack. Be prepared to catch residual hydraulic fluid.

  5. Install the New Valve

Install the replacement spool slice. Ensure all O-rings are present, properly seated, and lightly lubricated with clean hydraulic fluid to prevent pinching. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

  6. Reassembly & Calibration

Reconnect the electrical harness. Note that newly installed electric spool slices often need to be programmed or calibrated to the tractor's ECU using a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool.

  7. Clear Codes & Test

Clear the 0A.80.2A DTC from the system. Start the tractor, check for leaks, and test the remote valve function for proper operation.
