A.81.1B

Massey Ferguson A.81.1B – Armrest Controller or Hydraulic/Implement Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 8 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction within the circuit of the 8th external hydraulic remote valve, typically triggered by an electrical fault (such as a short, open circuit, or voltage irregularity at the valve's solenoid) or a mechanical performance failure (such as the valve failing to actuate or hold pressure).

Check the cause

  1. Verify the UTTO hydraulic fluid level and inspect for a dark, burnt smell or milky appearance indicating water contamination

  2. Check the hydraulic filter for blockages or heavy contamination like metal shavings

  3. Inspect External Valve 8, its couplers, and associated hoses for external leaks or damaged seals

  4. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector to Valve 8 for frayed wires, corrosion, or loose pins, and test the solenoid for proper resistance

  5. Test the system pressure at the remote coupler with a hydraulic gauge to determine if the valve is failing to open/close properly or if the relief valve is set too low

Repair steps

  1. Relieve Pressure

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls to relieve all residual pressure in the system before beginning work.

  2. Drain/Flush

If the hydraulic fluid is degraded, drain the system, replace the hydraulic filter, and flush the lines.

  3. Disconnect Electricals

Disconnect the battery. Unplug the electrical connector from the Valve 8 solenoid.

  4. Remove Hoses

Disconnect the hydraulic lines attached to the valve. Cap the lines immediately to prevent dirt from entering the system.

  5. Unbolt the Valve

Remove the securing bolts holding the external control valve to the hydraulic base plate or manifold block.

  6. Install the New Valve

Clean the mating surface on the manifold. Install the new valve, ensuring all O-rings and seals are correctly seated to prevent internal bypassing or external leaks. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

  7. Reassembly

Reconnect the hydraulic lines and plug the electrical connector back into the solenoid.

  8. Refill and Bleed

Top up the hydraulic system with fresh OEM-spec UTTO fluid. Start the tractor and cycle the valve several times to bleed air from the lines.

  9. Clear Codes

Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.81.1B code from the system.
