Check the cause
Verify the hydraulic fluid is at the correct level and free of contamination.
Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector plugging into External Hydraulic Valve 8 (the electric spool slice). Look for corrosion, bent pins, or frayed wires.
Test the valve's solenoid coil for proper resistance and ensure it is receiving the correct voltage from the ECU when the remote is commanded from the cab.
Check for physical damage, leaks, or blockages in the hydraulic lines connected to the #8 remote.
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic controls in the cab to relieve all residual hydraulic pressure in the system.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the external hydraulic valve block at the rear of the tractor to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.
Disconnect Electronics
Unplug the electrical harness connector from Valve 8.
Remove the Valve
Unbolt the faulty spool valve/electric slice from the hydraulic valve stack. Be prepared with a catch pan, as residual hydraulic fluid will leak out.
Prep the Surface
Remove old O-rings and wipe the mating surface on the valve block clean.
Install New Valve
Install the replacement valve using new O-rings/seals. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.
Reassemble and Test
Reconnect the electrical harness. Start the tractor, top up the hydraulic fluid, and test the #8 remote for proper operation and leak-free performance.
Clear Codes
Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the A.81.29 / 0A.81.29 fault code from the system. (Note: Some electric spool slices may require programming/calibration to the tractor via the diagnostic tool after installation).
