Massey Ferguson A.82.12 – Transmission/Hydraulic Control Unit or main implement/vehicle ECU (EHR): External Hydraulic Valve 8 Issue
Issue description
Triggered when the tractor's onboard diagnostic system detects a signal out of range, a circuit problem, or a mechanical condition it cannot correct on the 8th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve).

Check the cause
Check for general electrical power issues, such as low voltage during cranking, weak charging, or poor grounds, which can throw false codes.
Inspect the wiring harness and the electrical connector specifically at External Hydraulic Valve 8. Look for rub points, damaged wires, or loose/corroded pins.
Test the solenoid coil resistance and ground integrity with a multimeter to rule out an open circuit or a short to ground.
Check the hydraulic fluid levels and inspect the valve block for visible leaks. Debris or internal wear can cause the valve to stick or jam.
Repair steps
Retrieve Code
Connect a compatible diagnostic tool to confirm the 0A.82.12 code is active.
Locate the Valve
Locate External Hydraulic Valve 8 on the rear hydraulic remote stack.
Electrical Testing
Disconnect the electrical connector to the valve's solenoid. Use a multimeter to test the wiring harness for continuity back to the control module.
Replace Solenoid (If Electrical)
If the wiring is intact but the solenoid coil is out of specification (open or shorted), replace the solenoid coil.
Relieve Pressure
If the electrical circuit and solenoid are functioning correctly, the issue is likely mechanical. Safely relieve all hydraulic system pressure before proceeding.
Remove and Inspect Valve
Remove the valve spool/solenoid assembly. Inspect the internal components for debris, scored spools, or damaged O-rings.
Clean or Replace
Clean the valve thoroughly. If internal wear or jamming is found, replace the entire valve slice/assembly.
Reassemble and Clear Codes
Reinstall the valve, top up the hydraulic fluid, and use the diagnostic tool (or dashboard interface) to clear the error code from the control unit.
Test
Unlock the valves and test the hydraulic remote operation to ensure the fault does not return.
