Massey Ferguson A.82.18: External Hydraulic Valve 8 Issue

Malfunction in the circuit or mechanical operation of the 8th external hydraulic remote/spool valve. This can be triggered by an electrical connection problem to the valve's solenoid, a sticking/jammed valve spool due to internal wear or debris, or a hydraulic pressure/flow issue.

   Ensure the hydraulic filter is not blocked (should be changed every 300–500 hours)

   Inspect external hydraulic valve 8, quick couplers, and hoses for visible fluid leaks or pressure loss

   Check if the valve is sticking or jamming by testing for unresponsive, slow, or weak hydraulic action on the 8th remote

   Verify connection tightness at the pump and control valve to rule out system aeration or pressure loss

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic system pressure.

   Electrical Repair

   If the diagnostic check revealed a wiring issue, clean the connector contacts with electrical contact cleaner or repair the damaged wiring harness leading to Valve 8.

   Valve Removal

   Disconnect the hydraulic hoses and electrical connections from External Hydraulic Valve 8. Unbolt the valve assembly from the hydraulic block.

   Valve Rebuild/Replacement

   If the valve is leaking or sticking, disassemble the spool valve. Clean the valve chamber thoroughly to remove any debris. Install a new spool valve repair kit (replacing all O-rings and seals). If the valve body is heavily worn, scored, or beyond repair, replace the entire valve assembly.

   Reinstallation

   Mount the repaired or new valve back onto the tractor. Reconnect all hydraulic lines and electrical connectors securely.

   Fluid Maintenance

   If the fluid was contaminated, flush the system, replace the hydraulic filter, and refill with fresh UTTO hydraulic fluid.

   Testing

   Start the tractor, allow the hydraulic fluid to warm up, and test the operation of Valve 8. Check for leaks and ensure smooth operation.

   Clear Codes

   Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the A.82.18 fault code from the system.
