A.82.25

Massey Ferguson A.82.25 – Auxiliary Valve Controller, Vehicle Control Unit (VCU), or Tractor Control Unit (TCU): External Hydraulic Valve 8 Issue

Issue description

This fault code indicates a malfunction, electrical fault, or communication error with the 8th external hydraulic remote valve (the electric spool slice) located on the tractor's rear hydraulic valve stack.

Check the cause

  1. Check the electrical multi-plug connection to External Hydraulic Valve 8 on the rear remote stack. Look for damaged wiring harnesses, chafing, or corroded pins at the valve's solenoid connector.

  2. Verify the tractor's hydraulic fluid level and check the condition of the hydraulic filters, as severe contamination can cause spool valves to stick and throw electrical resistance faults.

  3. Swap the electrical connection or the pilot pressure control solenoid with a known working valve on the same stack (e.g., Valve 7). If the diagnostic tool now shows an issue with Valve 7 (Code 0A.82.21), the valve slice or solenoid is faulty. If the code remains A.82.25, the issue is in the wiring harness or the control module.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all hydraulic implements to the ground to relieve system pressure, and turn off the engine.

  2. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

  3. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the area around the rear external hydraulic valve block to prevent dirt from entering the sensitive hydraulic system.

  4. Disconnect Harness

Locate the 8th external hydraulic valve slice on the valve stack and disconnect its electrical harness.

  5. Remove the Valve

Remove the retaining tie-rods or mounting bolts holding the spool valve slice to the main hydraulic block.

  6. Extract the Slice

Carefully remove the faulty valve slice. Ensure you do not lose or damage any O-rings or seals between the adjoining slices.

  7. Install New Part

Install the new electric spool slice (or install an OEM repair kit if rebuilding the mechanical portion) using fresh O-rings.

  8. Reassembly

Re-torque the retaining bolts to the manufacturer's specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery.

  9. Fluid Check & Calibration

Top off the hydraulic fluid if any was lost. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the A.82.25 DTC. *Note: Replacement electric spool slices often require programming/calibration to the tractor's ECU via a dealer diagnostic tool to function correctly.*

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Electric Spool Slice

    3797234M6

Common on modern electro-hydraulic remotes; fitment includes 6400, 6600, and 7400 series. Requires programming.

  • Pilot Pressure Control

    R917008801

Pilot pressure control for electric spool valve.

  • Spool Valve Repair Kit

    3176423M91

Used for rebuilding the seals/mechanicals of the spool valve.
