A.82.2A

Massey Ferguson A.82.2A – Hydraulic Control Unit, Implement Control Module, or Armrest Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 8 Issue

Issue description

The onboard diagnostic system has detected a malfunction related to the 8th external hydraulic remote valve. The underlying condition is typically an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power in the solenoid circuit), a signal out of range, or a mechanical issue preventing the valve spool from actuating properly.

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Check the electrical connector at External Hydraulic Valve 8 for corrosion, moisture, or loose pins.

  2. Wiring Harness Check: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the valve for rub points, open circuits, or shorts to ground/power.

  3. Coil Resistance Test: Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the valve's solenoid coil to ensure it is within OEM specifications and not internally shorted or open.

  4. Ground Integrity: Verify that the ground connection for the hydraulic valve block is clean and secure.

  5. Mechanical Inspection: Check the valve physically for external hydraulic leaks or a sticking spool.

  6. Fluid Check: Verify that the hydraulic fluid level is correct and the fluid/filters are in good condition.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, power down the engine, and disconnect the battery.

  2. Relieve Pressure

Relieve all hydraulic system pressure by cycling the hydraulic control levers/buttons.

  3. Locate the Valve

Locate External Hydraulic Valve 8 on the rear remote valve stack.

  4. Electrical Repair

If the diagnostic checks revealed a wiring issue, repair the damaged harness or splice in a new connector.

  5. Solenoid Replacement

If the solenoid coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve stem, slide the old coil off, install the new coil, and tighten the nut.

  6. Valve Replacement

If the valve spool is mechanically sticking or internally bypassing: Disconnect the hydraulic lines attached to Valve 8. Unbolt the specific valve section from the hydraulic block assembly. Clean the mating surfaces and install the new spool valve section, ensuring new O-rings/seals are placed between the valve sections. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

  7. Reassembly

Reconnect the electrical harness and hydraulic lines.

  8. Testing

Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and top off the hydraulic fluid if any was lost during the repair. Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the A.82.2A fault code and test the operation of the 8th remote valve to ensure the issue is resolved.
