A.83.12

Massey Ferguson A.83.12 – Vehicle Control Module (VCM), Autotronic controller, or Electronic Hitch/Hydraulic Remote (EHR) module: External Hydraulic Valve 8 Issue

Issue description

Malfunction in the circuit or mechanical operation of the 8th external hydraulic remote valve (spool valve). This indicates an electrical fault (such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power at the valve's solenoid), a sensor signal issue, or a mechanical/hydraulic condition where the valve spool is stuck or not responding to electronic commands.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connector leading to the solenoid on External Valve 8 (usually located at the rear remote valve stack) for rub points, frayed wires, or corrosion.

  2. Measure the resistance of the valve's solenoid coil using a multimeter to ensure it is not open or shorted, and check the ground integrity of the circuit.

  3. Check if the spool valve is physically stuck due to foreign material or internal scoring.

  4. Verify that the hydraulic block is receiving adequate pressure and that the relief valve is functioning correctly.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system by cycling the remote levers/buttons, and disconnect the battery to protect the electronic controllers.

  2. Locate the Valve

Identify External Hydraulic Valve 8 on the rear hydraulic block.

  3. Inspect and Clean

Disconnect the electrical connector to the solenoid. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. If the harness is damaged, splice or replace the affected wiring.

  4. Replace the Solenoid

If the solenoid fails the resistance test, unbolt it from the spool valve body and install a new solenoid.

  5. Rebuild the Spool Valve

If mechanically stuck or leaking, carefully unbolt the valve slice from the hydraulic stack, remove the spool from the valve body, inspect for metal shavings or foreign debris and clean thoroughly, replace all internal O-rings and seals using an OEM spool valve repair kit, reassemble the valve, and torque the hydraulic unions to factory specifications.

  6. Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, power on the tractor, and use a compatible diagnostic interface tool to clear the 0A.83.12 fault code. Test the remote valve for proper operation.
