A.8X.1A

Massey Ferguson A.8X.1A – Transmission Control Unit (TCU), Implement Control Module, or Electrohydraulic Spool Valve Controller: External Hydraulic Valve 8 Issue

Issue description

The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected a malfunction, electrical fault, or performance issue with the 8th external hydraulic remote valve (electrohydraulic spool valve). This valve controls the flow of pressurized hydraulic fluid to external implements.

Applies to these machines

  • 5710SL
  • 5711SL
  • 5712SL
  • 5713SL
  • T4
  • 4707
  • 4708
  • 4709
  • 4710
  • 5608
  • 5609
  • 5610
  • 5611
  • 5612
  • 5613
  • 7614 through 7626
  • 7714 through 7726S

Check the cause

  1. Check the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) level and condition (look for dark, burnt, or milky fluid indicating water contamination)

  2. Inspect the hydraulic or transmission filter for blockages, especially if near the 300-500 hour service interval

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical connector to External Valve 8 for corrosion, damaged pins, or frayed wires

  4. Physically inspect the spool valve, couplers, and hoses for external leaks, damage, or a mechanically stuck spool

  5. Perform a pressure test using a hydraulic gauge at the diagnostic quick connectors to verify pump and relief valve operation

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Turn off the tractor and relieve all hydraulic system pressure by cycling the hydraulic controls before starting work.

  2. Drain/Contain Fluid

Place a catch pan under the hydraulic valve block to contain any UTTO fluid that escapes during removal.

  3. Disconnect Electricals

Unplug the electrical wiring harness connector from the solenoid on External Valve 8.

  4. Remove Lines

Disconnect the hydraulic hoses/lines attached to the valve. Cap the lines immediately to prevent dirt and contaminants from entering the hydraulic system.

  5. Remove the Valve

Unbolt the faulty spool valve assembly from the main hydraulic block or lift cover.

  6. Install the New Valve

Mount the replacement valve, ensuring all O-rings and seals are properly seated to prevent leaks. Torque the mounting bolts to the specifications outlined in your specific model's service manual.

  7. Reassemble

Reconnect the hydraulic lines and plug the electrical connector back into the solenoid.

  8. Refill and Test

Top off the hydraulic fluid (UTTO) as needed. Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.82.21 fault code, then start the tractor and test the remote valve for proper operation and leaks.
