Check the cause
Check the hydraulic oil filter and transmission filter for blockages, and inspect the hydraulic fluid for contamination (dirty oil can cause the spool valve to stick or operate sluggishly).
Inspect quick-release couplers and hoses for blockages, damage, leaks, or wear that might restrict oil flow or cause pressure drops.
Inspect the valve body for fluid leaks caused by worn O-rings, damaged seals, or loose connections.
Check the spool valve detent mechanisms for rust or seizing, which can make the valve impossible to move or operate correctly.
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Ensure the tractor is turned off, the implement is lowered, and all hydraulic pressure is relieved from the system before beginning work.
Clean the Area
Thoroughly clean the area around External Valve 8 to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system during disassembly.
Replace Seals/O-Rings
If the valve is leaking at the couplers or poppets, remove the quick-release couplings and replace the internal O-rings and plastic washers using a spool valve seal kit.
Rebuild/Replace Detents
If the valve lever is seized due to rust, remove the detent cap on the spool valve. Clean out any corrosion and install a new detent kit.
Replace the Valve Assembly
If the valve body is cracked, heavily rusted, or suffering from severe internal wear that cannot be fixed with seals, disconnect the hydraulic lines, unbolt the valve block from the hydraulic stack, and install a new external hydraulic spool valve assembly.
Test
Reconnect all hoses, top off the hydraulic fluid, start the tractor, and test the remote valve for proper operation and leak-free performance.
