Check the cause

  1. Check the hydraulic oil level and ensure the correct oil type is used. Inspect hydraulic filters for blockages.

  2. Inspect the hydraulic couplers on Valve 8 for damage, non-matching fittings, or blockages.

  3. Check for visible external leaks around the spool valve. If the linkage drops overnight or pressure is weak, check for internal pressure loss (worn seals, damaged O-rings, or scored cylinders).

  4. Check for a sticking spool or relief valve issues. Do not adjust relief valves without a pressure gauge.

  5. Inspect the wiring harness and electrical solenoid connector at External Valve 8 for corrosion, breaks, or poor contact.

Repair steps

  1. Diagnose in Order

Begin with the simplest components: oil, filters, couplers, linkage, valves, pressure, flow, and finally internal components.

  2. Pressure Test

Use a hydraulic pressure gauge at the Valve 8 coupler to verify if the valve is producing the correct flow and pressure.

  3. Inspect the Spool Valve

If pressure is low or the valve is sticking, remove the external hydraulic spool valve assembly.

  4. Rebuild or Replace

Disassemble the valve and inspect the internal spool for scoring. If the metal is scored, the entire valve must be replaced. If it is just a seal failure causing internal pressure loss, rebuild the valve using an OEM spool valve repair kit (replacing all O-rings and seals).

  5. Reassembly

Reinstall the valve, ensure all hydraulic lines and electrical connectors are securely fastened, and top off the hydraulic oil.

  6. Clear Codes

Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 0A.82.21 code from the onboard diagnostic system and test the implement under load.
