Massey Ferguson A.8X.22 – Tractor ECU or Hydraulic/Implement Control Module: External Hydraulic Valve 8 Issue
Issue description
Fault within the 8th external hydraulic spool valve circuit. The underlying condition is typically an electrical connection problem, a signal voltage irregularity, or a failure of the solenoid that controls the hydraulic valve slice.

Check the cause
Locate External Hydraulic Valve 8 on the rear remote stack and inspect the wiring harness for chafing, breaks, or pinched wires.
Disconnect the electrical plug at the valve solenoid and check for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins.
Use a multimeter to test the resistance of the solenoid coil and verify that it falls within OEM specifications.
Check for proper signal voltage coming from the wiring harness when the valve is commanded from the cab.
Ensure the spool valve itself is not mechanically stuck due to debris or hydraulic system contamination.
Repair steps
Retrieve Codes
Use a compatible diagnostic tool to confirm the active 0A.8X.22 code.
Clean and Re-seat
If the connector is dirty, clean the pins with contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, re-seat the connector, and attempt to clear the code.
Remove Faulty Component
If the code persists and the solenoid tests bad, relieve all hydraulic pressure from the system. Disconnect the electrical harness from the faulty solenoid.
Replace Solenoid/Slice
Depending on the valve design, remove the retaining bolts for the solenoid coil or the entire electric spool slice.
Install New Part
Install the replacement solenoid or spool slice. Ensure all O-rings are seated correctly to prevent leaks. Torque mounting bolts to OEM specifications.
Reassembly and Testing
Reconnect the electrical harness. Clear the diagnostic trouble codes using the diagnostic tool. Start the tractor and test the operation of the 8th remote valve to ensure the issue is resolved and there are no hydraulic leaks. (Note: Some newer electric spool slices may require calibration or programming to the tractor via the dealer diagnostic tool).
