Massey Ferguson AC29 – Air Conditioning Control Module (AIRCON): Undervoltage at the X440 connector

An undervoltage condition at the X440 connector (specifically the yellow connector) of the Air Conditioning Control Module. The voltage being supplied to the module has dropped below the minimum operating threshold, preventing the module from properly controlling the HVAC system and leading to a loss of air conditioning, erratic fan speeds, or complete climate control failure.

   Verify that the tractor's battery and alternator are functioning correctly, as a failing alternator or weak battery can cause system-wide undervoltage codes.

   Inspect the X440 yellow connector at the Air Conditioning Control Module for pushed-out pins, melted plastic, or green corrosion.

   Perform a voltage drop test at the power supply pins of the X440 connector with the key ON (should match battery voltage, approx. 12.6V - 14.4V).

   Trace the wiring harness from the X440 connector back to the fuse panel, looking for chafed wires, pinch points, or damaged insulation.

   Inspect the cab HVAC fuses and the main AC power relays in the fuse box for corroded legs or failure.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Module

   Remove the interior cab trim panels or roof liner panels required to access the Air Conditioning Control Module.

   Clean and Repair Connections

   If the X440 yellow connector is corroded, clean both the male and female pins with a high-quality electrical contact cleaner. If the connector is melted or severely damaged, splice in a replacement pigtail connector.

   Repair Wiring

   If the voltage drop test indicated a wiring issue, locate the damaged section of the harness and repair it using solder and heat-shrink tubing.

   Replace the Module (If Necessary)

   If the wiring, fuses, relays, and connector are all in perfect condition and supplying full battery voltage to the X440 connector, the internal circuitry of the Air Conditioning Control Module has failed. Remove the mounting screws, disconnect the blue (X439) and yellow (X440) connectors, and install a new module.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition ON, and use a diagnostic tool (or the tractor's onboard dash display) to clear the AC29 fault code. Test the air conditioning system to ensure the fault does not return.
