AC33

Massey Ferguson AC33 – Air Conditioning Control Module: Input signal from the right-hand recirculation actuator is outside its operating range

Issue description

The input signal from the right-hand recirculation actuator (Component X450, Motor for the right-hand heating shutter) is outside its operating range. This indicates the system is commanding the right-hand air vent/heating flap to move, but the position sensor feedback is missing, shorted, or reporting an impossible physical position due to a jam or sensor failure.

Check the cause

  1. Access the right-hand heating shutter flap and manually check if the flap is jammed by dust, debris, or broken plastic linkages.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to component X450 (Right-hand heating shutter motor) for chafed wires or loose pins.

  3. Check the blue (X439) and yellow (X440) connectors on the Air Conditioning Control Module to ensure they are seated tightly and free of corrosion.

  4. Back-probe the X450 actuator connector to verify it is receiving the correct reference voltage from the AIRCON module and that the return signal voltage changes smoothly as the flap is commanded to move.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the HVAC Unit

Remove the necessary cab interior trim panels (typically in the roof console or under the dash, depending on the specific tractor model) to access the HVAC distribution box.

  3. Locate Component X450

Identify the right-hand heating shutter motor (Component ID: X450) on the side of the HVAC housing.

  4. Remove the Actuator

Disconnect the electrical harness plug from the X450 motor. Remove the mounting screws securing the actuator to the HVAC housing.

  5. Inspect the Flap

With the motor removed, manually actuate the right-hand shutter door to ensure it moves freely. If it binds, the HVAC housing may need cleaning or repair.

  6. Install the New Actuator

Align the new actuator motor with the flap linkage and secure it with the mounting screws.

  7. Reconnect

Plug the electrical harness back into the new X450 motor. Reassemble the cab trim panels.

  8. Test and Clear Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and clear the AC33 fault code. Cycle the climate control system through its heating and recirculation modes to verify the right-hand shutter operates correctly without triggering the code.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Right-Hand Heating Shutter Motor / Recirculation Actuator (Electrical Component ID: X450)

The exact AGCO/Massey Ferguson part number varies depending on the specific cab configuration. When ordering from a dealer, request the 'X450 right-hand heating shutter motor' for your specific VIN/Serial Number.
