AR01

Massey Ferguson AR01 – Armrest Autotronic 5 module: Issue With 10 Volt Supply From TECU Module (TECU)

Issue description

The 10-volt reference output from the TECU—which is used to power various sensors, potentiometers, and switches in the armrest console—is outside of its expected voltage range. This can be caused by a short circuit in the armrest wiring, a failed sensor pulling the voltage down, or an internal failure of the TECU itself.

Check the cause

  1. Verify main system voltage from the battery and alternator is correct (approximately 12-14V), as undervoltage or overvoltage can cause output faults.

  2. Inspect the X104 connector on the Armrest Autotronic 5 module for loose pins, moisture, or corrosion.

  3. Check the armrest wiring harness for visible damage, chafing, or shorts to ground caused by frequent armrest movement.

  4. Perform a component drop test to isolate the 10V circuit by disconnecting armrest components (e.g., FingerTIP spool valve switches, joystick) one at a time. If disconnecting a specific switch causes the 10V supply to return to normal, that component is shorted.

  5. Test the TECU output directly at the X104 connector with all armrest sensors and switches disconnected. If it still fails to output 10V, the TECU has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Access internal wiring

Remove the armrest cover and side trim panels to access the internal wiring and the Autotronic 5 TECU.

  3. Replace shorted component

If a specific sensor or switch was identified as shorted during the diagnostic phase, unbolt and replace that component.

  4. Repair wiring harness

If the wiring harness is chafed, repair the damaged wires using appropriate crimp connectors and heat shrink, then re-route the harness to prevent future rubbing.

  5. Disconnect faulty TECU

If the TECU itself is faulty, disconnect the X104 connector and all other associated harness connections from the module.

  6. Remove old TECU

Unbolt the old Autotronic 5 TECU from its mounting bracket.

  7. Install new TECU

Install the new TECU and securely reconnect all harnesses.

  8. Reconnect battery

    Reconnect the battery.

  9. Clear fault codes

Turn the key on and clear the fault codes. Note: Installing a new Autotronic 5 TECU may require dealer programming/software calibration via the Massey Ferguson service tool to match the tractor's specific transmission and hydraulic configuration.

Parts you might need

(5)
  • Autotronic 5 Calculator / TECU Module
