Massey Ferguson AR32 – Autotronic 5 TECU: High Voltage On Auxiliary Valve Switch 3 (TECU)

The control module is detecting a short circuit to 12V on the circuit for the 3rd auxiliary hydraulic spool valve switch (designated in wiring diagrams as component X587 - FingerTIP 3).

   Inspect the FingerTIP 3 switch (X587) on the armrest console for physical damage, sticking, or liquid intrusion (spilled drinks in the cab are a common cause of armrest switch shorts).

   Disconnect the battery and access the wiring under the armrest. Disconnect the X587 connector at the switch and the X104 connector at the Autotronic 5 TECU. Use a multimeter to check the signal wire for a short to the 12V power supply.

   Test the FingerTIP 3 switch itself for an internal short to 12V.

   Inspect the pins at both the X587 and X104 connectors for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture bridging the contacts.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Armrest

   Remove the retaining screws on the armrest console to lift the cover and access the underside of the FingerTIP switch bank.

   Isolate the Fault

   Disconnect the X587 connector from the 3rd auxiliary valve switch.

   Repair Wiring or Replace Switch

   If the wiring harness is rubbed through and shorting to a 12V source, repair the damaged section of the harness. If the switch is internally shorted (most common), unclip/unscrew the faulty FingerTIP switch from the armrest bezel and install a replacement.

   Reassemble and Power Up

   Reconnect the X587 connector, reassemble the armrest console, and reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes and Calibrate

   Turn the key on and clear the stored AR32 fault code. You must then perform a calibration of the new FingerTIP 3 switch via the tractor's terminal. Failure to calibrate the new switch will immediately trigger a secondary fault code: AR39.
