Massey Ferguson AR41 – TECU: High Amp Draw On Auxiliary Valve Switch 4 (TECU)
Issue description
The electronic control unit is detecting a short to ground (0 Volts) or an excessive current draw on the circuit belonging to the 4th auxiliary hydraulic spool valve switch (the "FingerTIP 4" control) located on the tractor's armrest.

Check the cause
Locate the 4th auxiliary valve switch on the armrest console (designated as component X588 or X109).
Inspect the wiring harness routing from the armrest to the TECU for pinched wires, chafing, or damaged insulation that could cause a short to ground.
Disconnect the electrical connector at the FingerTIP 4 switch, turn the key on, and check active fault codes.
If the code changes from AR41 to AR42 (Short circuit to 12 V), the switch itself has an internal short.
If the code remains AR41 with the switch unplugged, the wiring harness is shorted to ground somewhere between the switch connector and the TECU.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Switch
Carefully remove the armrest console cover to expose the underside of the FingerTIP switch bank.
Harness Repair
If the diagnostic test pointed to the harness, trace the wire from the X588/X109 connector back to the TECU, locate the short to ground, and repair the damaged wire using heat-shrink connectors.
Switch Replacement
If the switch is internally shorted, unclip or unscrew the faulty FingerTIP 4 switch from the console bezel and install the replacement switch.
Reassembly
Reconnect the switch harness, reassemble the armrest console, and reconnect the battery.
Calibration
Turn the tractor on. If code AR49 ('FingerTIP 4 Calibration not completed or incorrect') appears, perform the auxiliary valve calibration procedure via the Datatronic/Dash Control Center to marry the new switch to the TECU.
