Massey Ferguson B.00.06 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid High Amp Draw

Issue description

The electrical current (amperage) flowing through the solenoid coil on the mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve is exceeding the maximum threshold allowed by the controller. This is almost always a hard electrical fault caused by either an internal short circuit within the solenoid coil windings or a direct short-to-ground in the wiring harness.

Check the cause

  1. Visual Harness Inspection: Trace the wiring harness from the Mid Mount Valve Module to the loader valve block. Look for pinched wires, chafing against the tractor chassis, or melted insulation that could be causing a short to ground.

  2. Connector Check: Disconnect the electrical plug at the affected mid-mount valve solenoid. Inspect the pins for water ingress, corrosion, or signs of arcing/melting.

  3. Coil Resistance Test (Ohm Test): Using a digital multimeter, measure the resistance across the two pins of the solenoid coil itself. If the resistance reads at or near 0.0 Ohms, the coil is internally shorted and must be replaced. Compare the reading to a known good solenoid on the same valve block.

  4. Harness Isolation Test: With the solenoid unplugged, turn the ignition on and activate the loader joystick. If the code changes from 'High Amp Draw' (0B.00.06) to 'Open Circuit' (0B.00.07), the wiring harness is good, and the fault is definitively isolated to the solenoid coil itself.

Repair steps

  1. Prepare tractor

    Park the tractor on a level surface, lower the loader completely to the ground to relieve all hydraulic pressure, and turn off the engine.

  2. Locate valve block

    Locate the mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve block (typically mounted on the right side of the tractor chassis, just below the cab).

  3. Disconnect harness

    Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector from the faulty solenoid.

  4. Remove retaining nut

    Remove the retaining nut or clip located at the end of the valve cartridge stem.

  5. Remove faulty coil

    Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve stem. (Note: You usually do not need to remove the hydraulic cartridge itself, meaning no hydraulic fluid will be lost).

  6. Clean valve stem

    Clean the valve stem of any dirt or debris.

  7. Install new coil

    Slide the new replacement solenoid coil onto the stem.

  8. Reinstall retaining nut

    Reinstall and tighten the retaining nut/clip. Caution: Do not overtighten the nut, as this can crush the plastic housing of the new coil and cause premature failure.

  9. Reconnect harness

    Reconnect the electrical connector.

  10. Clear DTCs

    Turn on the ignition and use a compatible diagnostic tool (or the dash interface) to clear the stored DTCs.

  11. Verify repair

    Start the tractor and operate the loader joystick through all functions to verify the repair and ensure the code does not return.

    When ordering through an AGCO/Massey Ferguson dealer, you must specify whether you need the coil only or the entire cartridge assembly. Replacing just the electrical coil is usually sufficient unless the valve stem is physically damaged.
