B.00.18

Massey Ferguson B.00.18 – Mid Mount Valve Module / Hydraulic Valve Control Module: Issue With Spool Position Sensor Value

Issue description

The control module is receiving an erratic, out-of-range, or missing electrical signal from the sensor responsible for monitoring the physical position of the hydraulic spool valve. When this occurs, the tractor's computer cannot accurately determine how far the hydraulic valve is open or closed, which can lead to disabled hydraulic functions, jerky implement movement, or a flashing warning light on the dash.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connector running from the Mid Mount Valve Module to the spool position sensor for chafed wires, corrosion, or loose pins.

  2. Check the spool valve linkage and detents for physical binding or debris that might prevent full stroke travel.

  3. Attempt to run a hydraulic valve calibration via the tractor's dash or diagnostic interface to correct sensor drift.

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Turn off the tractor and cycle the hydraulic levers/joysticks to relieve all hydraulic pressure before working on the mid-mount valves.

  2. Access the Valve Block

Locate the mid-mount valve block (typically located under the right-hand side of the cab or near the loader subframe).

  3. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the area around the spool valve and sensor to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  4. Replace the Sensor

Disconnect the electrical pigtail. Unbolt the faulty spool position sensor from the valve body. Install the new sensor and torque to OEM specifications.

  5. Address Mechanical Wear

If the spool valve detent is worn out (a common issue on heavily used loader tractors), install a spool valve detent repair kit while the valve is accessible.

  6. Recalibrate

Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and use the Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool (or onboard dash sequence) to perform a mandatory spool valve calibration so the module learns the new sensor's min/max travel values.

  7. Clear Codes

Clear the 0B.00.18 DTC and test hydraulic functions.

Parts you might need

(3)
  • Spool Position Sensor / Hydraulic Lift Position Sensor

    3712728M4

On some specific mid-mount valves, the sensor is integrated into the solenoid cap and sold as a unit. Exact fitment depends on the tractor series.

  • Spool Valve Detent Kit

    1672123M91

Commonly used to fix mechanical holding issues in the spool valve.

  • Spool Valve Repair Kit

    3176423M91

Used for rebuilding the hydraulic seals and mechanicals of the valve.
