Massey Ferguson B.01.03 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid High Amp Draw
Issue description
The onboard diagnostic system has detected that the electrical current (amperage) being drawn by the solenoid on the loader's mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve is exceeding the maximum specified threshold. This almost always indicates an electrical short circuit—either a short to ground in the wiring harness or a shorted internal coil within the solenoid itself.

Check the cause
Trace the wiring harness from the Mid Mount Valve Module to the affected solenoid for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or areas rubbing against the chassis causing a short to ground.
Disconnect the plug at the solenoid and inspect the pins for water ingress, corrosion, or melting that could bridge connections.
Measure the resistance (Ohms) across the two pins of the solenoid coil using a digital multimeter. A reading of 0 ohms or significantly lower than the OEM spec (usually 4-8 ohms) confirms an internal short.
Swap the suspect solenoid coil with a known-good coil from an adjacent valve section (e.g., swap lift with tilt). If the fault code changes to match the new location, the coil is faulty. If it remains, the issue is in the wiring or module.
Repair steps
Safety Prep
Lower the front loader completely to the ground. Turn off the engine, cycle the loader joystick in all directions to relieve any residual hydraulic pressure, and disconnect the negative battery cable.
Locate the Valve
Locate the mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve block, typically mounted on the right side of the tractor chassis beneath the cab.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty solenoid.
Remove the Solenoid
Remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve cartridge stem. Carefully slide the faulty solenoid coil off the stem. (Note: You do not need to remove the hydraulic cartridge itself, which prevents hydraulic fluid loss).
Clean and Inspect
Wipe down the valve stem. Ensure there is no physical damage or debris that could prevent the new coil from seating properly.
Install the New Part
Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem. Reinstall the retaining nut and tighten it to the OEM torque spec (do not overtighten, as this can distort the cartridge and cause the spool to bind).
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the weather seal clicks securely into place.
Test
Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and operate the loader to verify functionality. Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the inactive DTC from the Mid Mount Valve Module.
