Massey Ferguson B.01.06 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid High Amp Draw

Issue description

The electrical current (amperage) being drawn by the solenoid coil on the mid-mount loader valve is exceeding the normal operating threshold. This condition is typically caused by an internal short circuit within the solenoid coil itself, a short-to-ground in the wiring harness supplying power to the solenoid, or a mechanically stuck valve spool that is causing the coil to overheat and draw excessive current to try and move the valve.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness between the Mid Mount Valve Module and the loader electro-valve for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires that could cause a short to ground.

  2. Disconnect the solenoid connector and check for corrosion, water ingress, or damaged pins.

  3. Measure the resistance (ohms) of the suspect solenoid coil using a multimeter. Compare it to the manufacturer's specifications. A reading of near-zero ohms indicates an internal short in the coil.

  4. Swap the suspect solenoid coil with an adjacent one on the valve block (e.g., swap Spool 1 with Spool 2). If the fault code changes to follow the new position, the solenoid coil is definitively faulty. If the code remains B.01.06, the issue is in the wiring harness or the module itself.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

    Turn off the tractor, lower the loader to the ground to relieve hydraulic pressure, and disconnect the battery to prevent accidental shorting during the repair.

  2. Disconnect Wiring

    Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty mid-mount valve solenoid.

  3. Remove the Coil

    Remove the retaining nut or bolt holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem cartridge.

  4. Slide Off the Coil

    Slide the old solenoid coil off the valve stem. (Note: You usually do not need to remove the hydraulic valve cartridge itself, which prevents fluid loss).

  5. Inspect the Valve

    Clean the valve stem and inspect it for physical damage, bending, or leaking hydraulic fluid. If the stem is damaged, the entire cartridge may need replacement.

  6. Install New Part

    Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut. Do not overtighten, as this can distort the coil or stem.

  7. Reconnect

    Reconnect the electrical connector and the tractor battery.

  8. Test and Clear

    Start the tractor, test the loader operation to ensure the high amp draw issue is resolved, and clear the DTC using a compatible diagnostic tool.
