Massey Ferguson B.01.15 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid High Amp Draw

Issue description

The system has detected that the electrical current (amperage) being drawn by the solenoid on the mid-mount loader valve is exceeding the maximum allowable threshold. This typically indicates an electrical short circuit within the solenoid coil itself, a short to ground in the wiring harness, or a severe voltage drop (low voltage) that forces the component to pull higher amperage to function. It can also occasionally be triggered if the hydraulic spool is mechanically stuck, causing the solenoid to overwork.

Check the cause

  1. Battery and Ground Check: Test the battery to ensure it is fully charged and inspect the main chassis grounds for corrosion or loose connections.

  2. Wiring Harness Inspection: Trace the wiring from the Mid Mount Valve Module to the loader valve block. Look for melted insulation, chafing against the tractor chassis, or pinched wires that could be shorting to ground.

  3. Solenoid Resistance Test: Disconnect the electrical connector at the affected mid-mount valve solenoid. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance (ohms) across the solenoid pins. If the resistance is significantly lower than OEM spec (or shows continuity to the solenoid casing), the internal coil is shorted and the solenoid must be replaced.

  4. Mechanical Spool Check: With the tractor off and hydraulic pressure relieved, check if the manual override (if equipped) on the valve spool moves freely. A physically jammed spool can cause the solenoid to overheat and draw excessive current.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

    Park the tractor on a flat surface, lower the loader to the ground to relieve hydraulic pressure, engage the parking brake, and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

  2. Locate the Valve

    Locate the mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve block (typically mounted on the right side of the tractor chassis, under the cab/platform area).

  3. Remove the Solenoid

    Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the faulty solenoid. Remove the retaining nut or cap at the end of the solenoid stem.

  4. Slide Off the Coil

    Carefully slide the electromagnetic coil off the hydraulic valve cartridge tube. (Note: You usually do not need to open the hydraulic system or remove the cartridge valve itself just to replace the electrical coil).

  5. Install New Solenoid

    Clean the valve stem. Slide the new solenoid coil over the stem and secure it with the retaining nut. Do not overtighten, as this can distort the sleeve and cause the spool to bind.

  6. Reassembly

    Reconnect the electrical connector. Reconnect the battery.

  7. Testing

    Start the tractor and operate the loader joystick to verify smooth operation. Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 0B.01.15 DTC from the Mid Mount Valve Module.
