Massey Ferguson B.01.17 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Issue With Spool Position Sensor Value
Issue description
The control module is receiving an erratic, out-of-range, or missing electrical signal from the sensor responsible for monitoring the physical position of the hydraulic spool valve.

Check the cause
Check for accompanying codes (such as 0B.00.16 or 0B.01.01) which indicate a wiring harness failure rather than a bad sensor
Inspect the wiring harness and connector leading to the mid-mount valve block for mechanical damage, chafing, or corrosion
Use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving reference voltage from the module and that the signal wire has continuity back to the Mid Mount Valve Module
Verify the voltage from the loader selector switch in the cab, as a failing switch can sometimes cause erratic valve behavior
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent short circuits while working on the electro-hydraulic system.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the mid-mount valve block (usually mounted under the right side of the cab or near the loader subframe) and identify the spool position sensor bolted to the end of the affected spool.
Remove the Sensor
Disconnect the electrical pigtail. Remove the retaining screws/bolts holding the position sensor to the valve body and carefully pull the sensor straight out.
Install the New Sensor
Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor with clean hydraulic fluid. Insert it into the valve block and torque the retaining screws to OEM spec. Reconnect the wiring harness.
Recalibrate the Valves
Reconnect the battery. Because the module needs to learn the physical end-stops of the new sensor, you must perform a valve calibration procedure using a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool (failure to do so will often trigger codes 0B.00.22 or 0B.00.23 - Issue With Calibration OF Valves).
Clear Codes
Clear the DTCs from the system and test the loader/spool operation to ensure the values are reading correctly.
