Massey Ferguson B.02.09 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid High Amp Draw
Issue description
This code indicates that the electrical current (amperage) being drawn by the solenoid on the mid-mount loader valve has exceeded the maximum allowable threshold. Technically, this almost always points to a short circuit. The most common culprits are an internal short within the solenoid coil windings (which lowers resistance and spikes the amp draw) or a short-to-ground in the wiring harness leading to the valve.

Check the cause
Visual Harness Inspection: Trace the wiring harness from the Mid Mount Valve Module to the loader valve block (usually located on the right side of the tractor chassis). Look for pinched wires, melted insulation, or chafing against the tractor frame that could cause a short to ground.
Connector Check: Disconnect the plug at the affected solenoid. Inspect the pins for water ingress, mud, or corrosion that could be bridging the terminals and causing a short.
Coil Resistance Test (Multimeter): Set a multimeter to Ohms (Ω) and measure the resistance across the two pins of the suspect solenoid coil. Compare this reading to a known-good solenoid on the same valve block. A reading of zero or significantly lower resistance than the good coil confirms the solenoid is internally shorted and must be replaced.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent accidental electrical spikes.
Locate the Valve
Locate the mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve block. Clean the exterior of the valve block around the faulty solenoid with brake cleaner or compressed air to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty solenoid.
Remove Hardware
Remove the retaining nut or screw (e.g., part 51768) located at the end of the solenoid cartridge.
Remove Coil
Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the hydraulic valve stem. Note: You usually do not need to open the hydraulic system or remove the inner cartridge stem just to replace the electromagnetic coil.
Install New Coil
Slide the new replacement solenoid coil over the valve stem.
Secure
Reinstall and tighten the retaining nut/screw to the manufacturer's torque spec (do not overtighten, as this can crack the plastic coil housing).
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the weather seal clicks into place.
Clear Codes & Test
Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and use the dash menu or a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the B.02.09 / 0B.02.09 DTC. Start the tractor and operate the loader joystick to verify the high amp draw fault does not return.
