Massey Ferguson B.X.04 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid Open Circuit
Issue description
The tractor's diagnostic system has detected an 'open circuit' on one of the solenoids controlling the mid-mount loader valve. This means electrical current is not able to complete its path through the solenoid coil. This is typically caused by a broken wire, a disconnected or corroded plug, or a burned-out internal coil within the solenoid itself.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the mid-mount valve block (under the right side of the cab or near the loader subframe) and the wiring harness leading to the solenoids for physical damage, chafing, or rodent damage.
Unplug the electrical connector at the flagged solenoid and check for pushed-out pins, water ingress, or heavy corrosion.
Perform a coil resistance test using a multimeter set to Ohms (Ω) on the solenoid coil pins. A healthy coil shows 5 to 15 ohms; an 'OL' (Open Loop) reading indicates a broken internal coil requiring replacement.
Perform a harness voltage test with the key ON and connector unplugged. Actuate the loader joystick for that specific function; if 12V does not arrive at the harness-side connector, the issue is in the wiring harness or the joystick module.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
Relieve Pressure
Relieve hydraulic pressure by moving the loader joystick in all directions (if mechanically linked) or ensure the loader is resting flat on the ground.
Locate the Valve
Access the mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve block. Identify the specific solenoid that failed the resistance test.
Remove the Coil
Most electro-hydraulic solenoids are secured by a single retaining nut at the end of the valve stem. Remove this nut.
Slide Off the Coil
Slide the old solenoid coil off the cartridge stem. (Note: You usually do not need to remove the hydraulic cartridge itself, meaning no hydraulic fluid will leak).
Install the New Coil
Slide the new OEM solenoid coil over the stem. Reinstall and tighten the retaining nut (do not over-tighten, as this can crack the plastic coil housing).
Reconnect
Plug the electrical harness back into the new solenoid. Ensure the weather-pack seal clicks into place.
Test
Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and test the loader function. The active fault code should move to a stored/inactive state and can be cleared via the dash menu or a dealer diagnostic tool.
