B.X.10

Massey Ferguson B.X.10 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid Open Circuit

Issue description

The control module is attempting to send an electrical signal to the solenoid that operates the mid-mount loader valve, but the electrical circuit is incomplete (open). This condition is typically caused by a severed wire, an unplugged connector, or a burnt-out internal coil within the solenoid itself.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve block and wiring harness for physical damage, chafing, or disconnected plugs.

  2. Unplug the connector at the affected solenoid and inspect pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or pins pushed out of the housing.

  3. Perform a coil resistance test using a digital multimeter across the two pins on the solenoid coil (an 'OL' reading indicates a broken internal coil).

  4. Perform a harness voltage test by actuating the loader joystick in the cab and checking for voltage at the unplugged harness connector.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to ensure electrical safety.

  2. Access the Valve Block

Clean the area around the mid-mount loader valve block to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

  3. Wiring Repair

If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire in the harness, repair the wire using appropriate weatherproof splice connectors and heat shrink.

  4. Solenoid Replacement

Disconnect the electrical plug from the faulty solenoid, remove the retaining nut at the end of the solenoid cartridge, slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve stem, slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the stem, and tighten the retaining nut.

  5. Reassembly

Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the weather-pack seal clicks firmly into place.

  6. Testing

Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and test the loader functions.

  7. Clear Codes

Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the inactive DTC from the system.
