Massey Ferguson B.X.14 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Loader Mid Mount Electro Valve Solenoid Low Amp Draw

Issue description

The electrical current (amperage) being drawn by the loader's mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve solenoid is lower than the expected threshold. This typically points to an open circuit caused by a broken wire in the harness, a disconnected or corroded plug, or a burnt-out (open) solenoid coil.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness leading from the tractor chassis to the mid-mount loader valve block for pinched wires, rodent damage, or disconnected plugs.

  2. Unplug the connector at the suspect solenoid and check for water ingress, dirt, or green corrosion on the pins.

  3. Perform a coil resistance test using a multimeter set to Ohms across the two pins of the solenoid coil. A healthy coil should read approximately 10 Ohms; an 'OL' (Open Loop) reading indicates a broken internal coil.

  4. Perform a voltage supply test with the connector unplugged by having an operator actuate the loader joystick (with the key on) to ensure the Mid Mount Valve Module is sending the command signal.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

    Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts. Lower the loader to the ground to relieve hydraulic pressure.

  2. Locate the Valve

    Locate the mid-mount electro-hydraulic valve block where the loader hoses connect to the tractor.

  3. Disconnect Harness

    Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty solenoid coil.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

    Remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve cartridge stem that holds the solenoid coil in place.

  5. Slide Off the Coil

    Slide the old solenoid coil off the hydraulic valve stem. (Note: You do not need to open the hydraulic system or remove the valve cartridge itself, so no hydraulic fluid should leak).

  6. Install New Coil

    Clean the valve stem of any dirt or debris. Slide the new solenoid coil over the stem.

  7. Secure the Coil

    Reinstall the retaining nut. Tighten it snugly, but do not overtighten, as this can crack the plastic casing of the new coil.

  8. Reconnect

    Plug the electrical harness back into the new solenoid.

  9. Test

    Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and test the loader joystick functions. The M03 fault code should clear automatically once the module detects the correct amp draw.
