Massey Ferguson B.X.17 – Mid Mount Valve Module: Issue With Spool Position Sensor Value
Issue description
The signal voltage coming from the hydraulic spool position sensor is out of the expected tolerance range, erratic, or missing. The sensor is responsible for telling the computer the exact physical position of the hydraulic spool valve so it can accurately control hydraulic flow to the implements or loader.

Check the cause
Check for related codes (such as 0B.00.22, 0B.00.23, or 0B.00.16) which might indicate a broader module failure rather than a single sensor issue.
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the mid-mount valve block for chafed wires, moisture ingress, or bent pins at the sensor connector.
Verify that the sensor is receiving its 5V reference voltage from the module.
Test the signal voltage. A healthy spool position sensor typically outputs approximately 2.5V when the spool is in the neutral position. If the value is stuck at 0V or 5V, the sensor is likely shorted or open.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent short circuits.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the mid-mount hydraulic valve block (usually located under the right-hand side of the cab or near the loader subframe). Identify the specific spool section throwing the code.
Remove the Sensor
Disconnect the electrical pigtail. Unbolt/unscrew the spool position sensor from the end cap of the hydraulic valve section.
Install the New Sensor
Clean the mating surface. Install the new spool position sensor, ensuring any O-rings are lubricated with clean hydraulic fluid. Torque to the manufacturer's specification.
Reconnect and Power Up
Reconnect the wiring harness and the battery.
Valve Calibration
You must use a compatible diagnostic tool (such as Jaltest AGV or the Massey Ferguson dealer EDT tool) to perform a Valve Calibration. This teaches the ECU the new sensor's exact neutral, maximum extend, and maximum retract voltage values.
Clear Codes
Clear the inactive 0B.00.17 code and test the hydraulic function.
Parts you might need
(1)Spool Position Sensor (Mid Mount Valve)
Massey Ferguson sources their electronic hydraulic valves from suppliers like Bosch Rexroth, Danfoss, and Husco. The sensor is often cataloged under the valve manufacturer's part number or sold as a complete valve end-cap assembly. Reference the tag on the mid-mount valve block itself to order the correct sensor.
