Massey Ferguson D133 – Instrument Panel / Dashboard (Dash): Electrical signal too high (X71 - Throttle Pedal Sensor)

The system monitors the voltage returning from the foot throttle potentiometer. A "high voltage" condition means the signal voltage exceeds the maximum expected threshold (typically >5V). This is usually caused by a short circuit to a power source, a broken/open reference ground wire, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

   Visually inspect the X71 Throttle Pedal Sensor at the foot accelerator assembly, checking the wiring harness and connector for physical damage, corrosion, or pushed-out pins.

   Check the reference ground line at the sensor connector (an open ground will cause the signal voltage to default high).

   Check the signal wire between the potentiometer and the controller for a short circuit to a 5V or 12V power source.

   If wiring tests good, test the potentiometer itself for internal failure causing an out-of-range voltage.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the battery ground cable to protect the electronic modules.

   Wiring Repair

   If a short or open circuit was found during diagnostics, repair the damaged section of the harness or replace the connector pigtail.

   Sensor Replacement

   If the wiring is intact, disconnect the harness from the X71 Throttle Pedal Sensor. Unbolt the faulty potentiometer from the pedal assembly and install the replacement unit.

   Calibration

   After installing a new throttle pedal sensor, you must perform a throttle pedal calibration procedure via the dashboard diagnostic menu or by connecting the Massey Ferguson Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT).

   Verification

   Clear the stored D133 fault code. Start the engine and operate the foot throttle to ensure smooth RPM transition from idle to maximum speed without triggering a warning light.
