Massey Ferguson D134 – Dash (Instrument Panel / Cluster): Issue With Signal Voltage From Foot Throttle Sensor Low Voltage

The control system is receiving a voltage signal from the foot throttle sensor that is below the minimum acceptable operating range (typically below 0.5V). This condition usually points to an open circuit, a short to ground in the signal wire, or a complete internal failure of the potentiometer. When this fault is active, the tractor will often default to a safe idle speed or limit throttle response to prevent unintended acceleration.

   Inspect the wiring harness and the connector at the foot throttle pedal for physical damage, micro-cracks, or corrosion

   Disconnect the sensor and turn the key to the ON position to verify that the reference voltage supply line (typically 5V or 12V) is reaching the potentiometer

   Ensure the ground circuit for the potentiometer has good continuity and is not open

   Test the signal line between the potentiometer terminal and the Dash/ECU controller for an open circuit or a short to ground

   Using a multimeter, measure the resistance/voltage output of the sensor while slowly depressing the pedal to ensure the signal increases smoothly without dropping out

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or a short to ground in the harness, repair the damaged section or replace the connector pigtail.

   Remove the Faulty Sensor

   If the wiring is intact, disconnect the electrical harness from the foot throttle sensor. Remove the mounting bolts securing the accelerator pedal/potentiometer assembly to the cab floor.

   Install the New Part

   Mount the replacement accelerator pedal potentiometer and secure the hardware. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Relearn/Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on and use a diagnostic tool to clear the D134 fault code from the Dash module. Test the pedal to ensure the engine RPM responds correctly and the code does not return.
