Massey Ferguson D136 – Dash: Forward/Reverse Lever Signal Voltage Low

Fault code D136 indicates that the Dash controller is receiving a voltage signal from the Forward/Reverse Lever (Power Control lever) potentiometer that is below the minimum expected threshold. This condition is typically caused by an open circuit on the 5V reference voltage line, an open circuit on the ground line, a short to ground on the signal line, or a complete internal failure of the lever's potentiometer contacts.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the Power Control lever (Component X56) for pinched wires, chafing, or disconnected plugs

   Disconnect the lever and test the reference voltage line coming from the controller to the lever's connector (should read approximately 5V)

   Check the ground line at terminal 1 of the potentiometer connector for continuity to the chassis ground

   Test the signal line between terminal 3 of the potentiometer and the controller for a short to ground or an open circuit

   If the wiring harness tests perfectly (good 5V reference, good ground, no shorts), conclude that the internal potentiometer contacts of the lever have failed

   Disconnect power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the lever

   Remove the plastic shrouds and cowling surrounding the steering column and instrument cluster to expose the base of the left-hand Power Control lever.

   Disconnect harness

   Unplug the electrical connector at the base of the shuttle lever.

   Remove the lever

   Remove the mounting screws or retaining bolts holding the lever assembly to the steering column bracket.

   Install the new part

   Seat the new Power Control lever into the column bracket and tighten the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect harness

   Plug the electrical harness into the new lever, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

   Reassemble shrouds

   Reinstall the steering column shrouds.

   Test operation

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position and verify that fault code D136 has cleared from the dash display. Start the tractor and test the forward, reverse, and neutral shuttle functions.
