Massey Ferguson D137 – Dash (Instrument Panel / Cluster): X106 - Transmission lever in armrest. Electrical signal too high.

The controller is receiving a voltage reading from the transmission control lever's potentiometer (Sensor X106) that exceeds the maximum normal operating threshold (typically >5V). This condition is almost always caused by a short circuit to a power source, an open ground circuit on the sensor line, or an internal failure of the potentiometer itself.

   Visually inspect the physical connection under the armrest for loose pins, corrosion, or pinched wires in the harness leading to the T-handle.

   Test the ground circuit of the potentiometer (an open ground circuit will cause the signal voltage to default high).

   Check the signal wire between the potentiometer (terminal 3) and the controller for a short circuit to a 12V or 5V power supply line.

   Verify that the reference voltage supply line to the potentiometer is intact and providing the correct 5V voltage.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

   Access the Sensor

   Disassemble the right-hand armrest console to expose the base of the transmission T-handle lever (Sensor X106).

   Disconnect and Inspect

   Unplug the wiring harness from the lever's potentiometer. If your diagnostic checks revealed wiring faults (like a chafed wire shorting to power), repair the harness.

   Replace the Component

   If the wiring is intact, the potentiometer itself has failed internally. Remove the mounting screws securing the potentiometer or the entire T-handle shift lever assembly (depending on whether the sensor is serviced separately on your specific model year) and install the replacement part.

   Reassemble

   Reconnect the wiring harness and reassemble the armrest console.

   Calibrate the Lever

   Reconnect the battery and turn the key on. You must calibrate the new armrest lever using the tractor's diagnostic interface.
