Check the cause
Visually inspect the electrical connector at the base of the X56 Power Control lever for loose pins, corrosion, or moisture
Inspect the wiring harness running from the steering column to the instrument panel for chafing, pinched wires, or breaks that could cause a short to ground
Using a multimeter, verify that the lever is receiving the correct reference voltage and ground from the dash module
Check the continuity of the signal wire from the lever's connector back to the instrument panel
Back-probe the signal wire and monitor the voltage as you move the lever through Forward, Neutral, and Reverse. If the voltage remains flat/low despite good reference voltage and ground, the lever's internal sensor has failed
