Massey Ferguson D149 – Dashboard / Instrument Panel (DCC2 or DCC3): CAN network deactivated (CAN bus off)
Issue description
Critical communication failure on the tractor's Controller Area Network (CAN bus). The module has experienced too many communication errors (often due to a physical wiring fault or voltage issue) and has actively disconnected itself from the network to prevent corrupting other messages.

Check the cause
Check battery and voltage levels, as low voltage can cause CAN bus communication to drop
Perform a wiring continuity test on the two CAN network wires linking the instrument panel to other systems (like the Autotronic 4 and EEM)
Test the CAN lines for open circuits, short circuits to ground, or short circuits to power, paying special attention to harness rub points under the cab and near the transmission
Inspect the connectors at the back of the instrument panel for backed-out pins, moisture intrusion, or corrosion
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the tractor's battery before servicing the electrical system to prevent short circuits.
Access the Harness
Remove the necessary steering column/dash cowlings to access the rear of the instrument panel.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic tests revealed a broken or shorted CAN wire, splice and repair the damaged section of the harness. If pins are corroded, clean them with electrical contact cleaner or replace the connector pigtail.
Address the Instrument Panel
If the wiring harness tests perfectly, the fault is likely an internal hardware failure within the instrument panel itself (such as cracked solder joints or moisture damage). Send the DCC2/DCC3 unit to an agricultural electronics specialist for remanufacturing or replace it entirely.
Reassemble and Test
Reconnect the instrument panel and the battery. Turn the ignition on to verify that the D149 code has cleared and that the dash is successfully communicating with the engine and transmission controllers.
