Check the cause
Connect the tractor to the Massey Ferguson Wintest diagnostic software and compare the live status of the shuttle lever switches while manually changing the lever position between Forward, Neutral, and Reverse
Check the physical connection and wiring harness at the base of the left-hand PowerShuttle lever for damage, corrosion, or loose pins that could cause a short or open circuit
Test the switch contacts with a multimeter to verify if they are failing to alternate states (one open, one closed) when moved out of neutral
Repair steps
Disconnect the battery
Disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.
Remove steering column trim
Remove the steering column trim/cowling to access the base of the left-hand PowerShuttle lever.
Disconnect electrical plug
Disconnect the electrical plug connecting the lever to the tractor's main harness.
Remove faulty lever assembly
Unbolt and remove the faulty Forward/Reverse lever assembly.
Install new assembly
Install the new OEM lever/switch assembly and reconnect the electrical plug.
Reassemble and reconnect battery
Reassemble the steering column trim and reconnect the battery.
Perform a Transmission Calibration
Start the engine and bring it to 1500 rpm. Engage the power shuttle and differential lock simultaneously for 3 seconds. Shift the power shuttle lever to initiate the automatic 2-minute calibration process. Once complete, validate the repair by performing several forward and reverse maneuvers to check for smooth shifting and ensure the D160 code does not return.
