Massey Ferguson D175 – Instrument Panel / Dash: Issue With Hand Throttle Circuit, Open Circuit

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the right-hand console/armrest to the instrument panel for chafing, breaks, or pinched wires that would cause an open circuit.

   Disconnect the plug at the hand throttle potentiometer (X122) and check for pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture.

   Using a multimeter, verify that the sensor is receiving its reference voltage and ground from the instrument panel, and test the signal wire for continuity back to the dash.

   Measure the resistance of the hand throttle potentiometer while moving the lever (Potentiometer Sweep Test). A dead spot or infinite resistance indicates an internal open circuit, confirming the sensor has failed.

   Preparation

   Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

   Access the Sensor

   Remove the trim panels on the right-hand console or armrest to expose the hand throttle lever assembly.

   Disconnection

   Unplug the electrical connector from the X122 hand throttle potentiometer switch.

   Removal

   Remove the retaining screws or bolts securing the hand throttle assembly to the console and lift the faulty unit out.

   Installation

   Mount the new hand throttle potentiometer and secure it with the original hardware.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the plug clicks securely into place. Reinstall the console trim panels.

   Clear Codes & Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on and clear the D175 fault code via the instrument panel. Test the throttle sweep to ensure the dash registers the new minimum and maximum values.
