Massey Ferguson D181 – Instrument Panel / Dash Control Center: Auxiliary hydraulics lever - electrical signal too high
Issue description
The voltage signal returning from the auxiliary hydraulic lever's potentiometer/sensor to the control module is exceeding the expected maximum threshold. This is typically caused by a short to power in the wiring harness, a broken ground wire (open circuit), or an internal failure of the lever's electronic sensor.

Check the cause
Inspect the main electrical connections under the armrest.
Inspect the wiring loom running from the auxiliary hydraulic lever to the instrument panel/control center for pinched wires, chafing, or exposed copper that could cause a short to a power source.
Test the ground circuit for the lever. An open ground will cause the signal voltage to default to its highest state.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.
Access the Armrest Console
Remove the retaining screws/panels on the operator's armrest to access the underside of the auxiliary hydraulic control levers.
Disconnect the Lever
Unplug the electrical connector specifically routed to the faulty auxiliary hydraulic lever. Check the pins for corrosion or bent terminals.
Replace the Component
If the wiring harness tests good (no shorts to power, good ground), the internal potentiometer of the lever has failed. Remove the mounting hardware for the lever assembly and install the new replacement lever kit.
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical plug, secure the armrest panels, and reconnect the battery.
Clear Codes
Turn the key on and verify that the D181 code has moved from "Active" to "Stored" or cleared entirely, and test the hydraulic lever for proper implement operation.

3903957M91Fitment is highly dependent on the exact tractor serial number and transmission type (Dyna-4, Dyna-6, Dyna-VT). Verify the serial number with an AGCO dealer before ordering, as lever configurations vary slightly across the 5400–7600 series ranges.
