Issue description

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the X235 Wheel Angle Sensor (typically mounted behind the front axle on the right side) and its mechanical linkage for bending or impact damage.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the sensor for chafing, pinched wires, or a short circuit to a 12V power source.

  3. Disconnect the sensor and check the electrical connector for water ingress, dirt, or corroded pins.

  4. Test the sensor's signal wire output with a multimeter; if the voltage remains stuck at the maximum reference voltage (usually 5V or 9.5V) regardless of wheel position, the sensor has failed internally.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Remove the Faulty Sensor

    Disconnect the electrical connector from the X235 Wheel Angle Sensor. Unbolt the sensor bracket and disconnect the ball joint/tie rod linkage connecting the sensor to the axle.

  3. Install the New Sensor

    Mount the replacement sensor to the axle bracket and reattach the mechanical linkage. Ensure the linkage is not binding at full left or right steering lock.

  4. Reconnect

    Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor.

  5. Calibration

    Reconnect the battery. You must perform a steering angle sensor calibration using the tractor's Datatronic terminal or an AGCO diagnostic tool. The system needs to learn the new voltage values for the center, full-left, and full-right steering positions.

  6. Clear Codes

    Clear the D183 fault code from the Dash Control Center and test drive the tractor to ensure Auto-Guide and 4WD systems operate correctly without throwing the code again.
