Massey Ferguson D185 – Dash / Instrument Panel: Electrical signal too high
Issue description
Electrical signal too high originating from the X57 - Dash Control Center keypad, typically indicating an open circuit, a disconnected plug, a short to power (voltage) in the wiring harness, or an internal failure within the keypad itself.

Check the cause
Inspect the X57 connection directly under/behind the Dash Control Center keypad for a loose or disconnected plug
Check the wiring harness running from the X57 keypad to the instrument panel (junction X59) for chafed wires shorting to voltage or severed wires causing an open circuit
Disconnect the keypad and inspect the connector pins for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture ingress
Use a multimeter to verify the reference voltage and ground at the keypad connector to ensure the instrument panel is sending the correct voltage
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Keypad
Carefully remove the trim or bezel surrounding the Dash Control Center keypad (X57) on the dashboard/console.
Disconnect and Clean
Unplug the connector. If corrosion is present, clean the pins with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease. Reconnect and test the tractor to see if the code clears.
Replace the Keypad
If the wiring tests good and cleaning the connector does not resolve the D185 code, the internal circuitry of the keypad has likely failed. Remove the mounting screws/clips, extract the old keypad, and install the new unit.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on. Navigate the Dash Control Center screen to the 'DC' icon (Erase the error codes stored in the instrument panel) and execute the clear command.
Parts you might need
(1)Dash Control Center Keypad / DOT Matrix Keyboard (Component X57)
Specific OEM part numbers vary heavily by exact tractor model and cab configuration. Provide your tractor's serial number to an AGCO/Massey Ferguson dealer to get the exact X57 keypad variant for your machine.
